Monsignor Joseph F Loreti Council #3240

113 Chiego Place, Roselle Park New Jersey 07204

About our Council,

Back in September, 2004, a small group of men met to discuss the possibility of resurrecting the Church of the Assumption Knights of Columbus Council #3240.  Then we decided to name it after the late Monsignor Joseph F. Loreti.  Everyone who was ever associated with the Church of the Assumption, loved and respected Monsignor Loreti.

The Joseph F. Loreti Council of the Knights of Columbus was resurrected in September, 2004 to serve the parish of the Church of the Assumption and all its parishioners.

In memory of his passing on November 22, 1997, the Knights would like to share his bio with all of you.

Joseph Francis Loreti was born on January 11, 1933 in Jersey City, NJ. He was the youngest of the five children that John and Michelina Loreti raised. He began school at the age of five, attending Holy Rosary Grammar School. Upon his graduation from Holy Rosary in 1947 he received a scholarship to attend high school at St. Peter’s Prep in Jersey City. After graduating from St. Peter’s Prep in 1951, he attended St Peter’s College, Jersey City for one year. At this time he transferred to Seton Hall University. He was ordained on May 23, 1959 after completing the requirements for priesthood at Immaculate Conception Seminary.

Father Loreti began to serve the faithful of the Archdiocese of Newark at Assumption Parish, Emerson, NJ and was on the staff of Bergen Catholic High School, Paramus. In 1962, he was named associate pastor at Church of the Assumption, Roselle Park, NJ.

During his tenure at Church of the Assumption he was active in many different activities. Father Loreti was moderator and advisor to the Angel Society, the Junior and Senior Sodalities as well as the Junior Holy Name Society. He was also moderator for the Altar Boys and was active in the Religious Education program the parish sponsored. He served as moderator for the parish CYO for many years. His love for the youth of his parish was evident in the numbers of young people involved in these activities.

Father Loreti ministered to the adults of Church of the Assumption as moderator of the Senior Holy Name Society, the Rosary Society, the Catholic War Veterans and the St. Lucy Filipini Society.

Father Loreti served the community of Roselle Park as chaplain for both the Police Department and the Fire Department. He was a regular participant in many community fund raising activities.

Father Loreti served the students of Mother Seton Regional High School, Clark, NJ as a teacher of religion for 25 years.

Father Loreti was active in Union County CYO. He was appointed area director in 1966, assistant county director in 1968 and county director in 1969. He was also a member of the Archdiocese of Newark Board of Directors for CYO.

In 1977, Father Loreti was named as pastor for Church of the Assumption. He was elevated to monsignor in 1983.

Monsignor Loreti passed away on November 22, 1997 while he was saying the rosary.  On November 21, 1999, the Board of Chosen Freeholders of Union County acknowledged and dedicated Monsignor Loreti Park in Roselle Park.
